WRO assists homeowners who are experiencing temporary interruptions in income or other financial hardship, such as a mortgage interest rate hike on an adjustable rate mortgage, thereby resulting in nonpayment of the mortgage. In conjunction with other nonprofit and governmental agencies, WRO works with homeowners and the lender towards possible solutions to resolve the crisis, e.g., to bring mortgage arrears current, and, if possible, to avert foreclosure through a variety of methods, such as refinancing or loan modification.

Early intervention is highly encouraged to obtain best results from WRO’s mortgage default counselors, as there are more options available to help homeowners Keep the Dream of homeownership, if they are fewer than sixty days (60 days) past due on their mortgages.
